FOOD COOLING WITH SOLAR HEAT: FLORIDA-EIS MANUFAKTUR GMBH

2013

“We make ice cream out of the sun.” The Florida ice cream factory had set itself an ambitious goal: it wanted to become the first CO₂-neutral ice cream factory in Germany. The special challenge: ice cream production requires a lot of heat for pasteurizing the basic mass as well as a lot of cold for cooling.

The solution resulted from the intelligent combination of a solar thermal system with the FAHRENHEIT cooling systems. Of great advantage here is that the Adsorptionstechnik copes well with the relatively low temperatures from the solar thermal. In 2013, the climate-neutral new location in Berlin-Spandau was inaugurated. Since then, it has been regarded as a flagship project in the area of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient food production.
